Dr. David Lipschitz to Address the Growth in Elder Care
Free May 20 educational seminar to be held at new Fox Ridge Chenal community
Renowned geriatrician Dr. David Lipschitz will discuss the
growth of elder care and best options for aging loved ones at a free
educational seminar Tuesday, May 20 at the new Fox Ridge Chenal senior
living community.
The
event will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. at 23101 Chenal Valley Drive and
will feature a lecture by Lipschitz and a question and answer session.
Interested attendees can attend a free tour of the new community
immediately following the lecture. Fox Ridge Chenal celebrates its
grand opening on June 5.
With
a booming aging population on the horizon, more families than ever are
facing caring for an aging parent or relative. According to a 2004
national survey by AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving,
nearly 23 million households are currently home to a caregiver. Some 43
percent of these caregivers are over 50 themselves—13 percent are over
65—and they spend good chunks of their weeks on a heady range of
chores, from medication management and bathing to feeding, clothing,
and arranging health care.
Unfortunately,
these caregiving duties in the home can be a real strain on families.
It’s not uncommon for aging relatives to resist being moved from the
comfort of their own home, but, fortunately, for families, there are
many more options now available for elder care.
“Dr.
David is one of the world’s leading authorities on aging, and we’re
excited to offer our community a free educational session with him,”
said J. Murry Reagor, director of operations for Fox Ridge. “He will
walk participants through the many elder care options and will
highlight the benefits of these options, such as assisted living.”
Lipschitz is director of the Donald
W. Reynolds Institute on Aging at the University of Arkansas for
Medical Sciences, where he is nationally recognized as a leader in the
field of geriatrics. Receiving more than $70 million in grant support,
the Institute on Aging has greatly improved the lives of thousands of
Arkansans. Lipschitz has served as chairman of the Research Committee
of the American Geriatrics Society and chairman of the Association of
Directors of Geriatric Academic Programs. He is consistently named one
of the “Best Doctors in America,” and has been featured in numerous
media outlets, including The Today Show, discussing aspects senior health.
Through
his educational efforts, Lipschitz aims to empower people with the
tools to live longer, happier and healthier lives. He is the creator of
the popular “Aging Successfully with Dr. David” TV show on AETN and is
author of “Breaking the Rules of Aging,” his first book highlighting
the key elements of successful aging and debunking the negative
stereotypes of senior living. His weekly syndicated column, “Lifelong
Health,” appears Sundays in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and is continually expanding into other markets.
