Re: tax to pay for trauma center

First off I want to say I am a smoker....I called myself a post and pre-quitter! LOL 101 days is as long as I stopped maybe next time longer. Nasty addiction, Hate it everytime i light up! But I assume everytime a obesed person eats that second burger they too deal with demons.

I doubt there are many smokers that like the fact that we are the ones being targeted, and having to pay for the trauma center. I have been buying my smokes out of state for some time now because I am a tightwad. I carry guilt with every pack bought so I find the cheapest i can. I give other states maga business and Arkansas hasn't gotten one cent off of my bad habit. I fear like myself, others will do the same....When it is cheaper across state lines and the budget is low it is a must. I believe too if i finally quit my budget will no doubt be blessed. Until I can kick the habit.

Freedom to smoke goes way back along with our rights to get plastered and buy achohol... Good bad whatever...I believe you shouldn't target anyone to pay for something everyone will be able to use.

Re: tax to pay for trauma center

Just another view on the tax for the trama center. I`ve lived in this state all my life and have paid high tobacco taxes just like my fellow Arkansans. I don`t smoke in restaurants, I can`t even smoke at work without leaving company property. I don`t dare smoke in my car with children. I say i`m sorry every chance I get for smoking in public. Smoking has been looked down upon by society for several years now and I have done my part to comply. Now that I still choose to smoke and don`t hurt anyone but myself including my family, coworkers, strangers, and friends. The next time i`m standing  out in the cold accross the street from anybody, someone should stop and thank me for all the good that I have done for the state of Arkansas. How would it feel if you rolled up to the trama center and the first sign you saw was sorry only smokers allowed.

I agree we pay taxes on evrything.  We buy a car and we pay taxes then every year we pay taxes on the same car again.  I am also a smoker and it is my choice and I am so tired of hearing the same thing over and over. If the goverment didnt abuse the taxes we pay and use them for what they should be used for instead of giving themselves raises and other perks they think they need.

persons are going to smoke.......did they not think that one would change their flavor of smoke.........one that can't be taxed, because the smoke isn't legal?  Or will they legalize marijuana?

I have never smoked pot........but....they can't tax what isn't legal......is the government going to force us to go south and do those things we have never done if for no other reason, spite?

Re: tax to pay for trauma center

Well you no i use to smoke cigs. but i still dip. i hate the tax thing and all but you can blame the voters for this.everyone who voted for obama. every pres. than ran for election the first time ran on change. wether it be bill clinton , george bush both of them or reagan. and people still think they are telling the truth. but when they go vote for change they keep voting the same reps. and sen. in office. so how is anything going to change. same things happen on state level. it is not a change if you do not change all persons in office.

Re: tax to pay for trauma center

I back your statement on complaining to state reps. Have you ever sent them letters or emails? I have and have yet to have a question answered or a decent response. Usually it is a copy of some policy that they have in place addressing the issue, totally missing the point. The case for the smoke tax I mentioned in an earlier response consisting of how doubtful it is that the tax will go for what it was said to go for just came to pass. They used the money to buy defribulators for all the schools, a good cause, but just an example of how deceptive our Reps are in getting bills passed in our state to increase funds.

Re: tax to pay for trauma center

And now they info us...they aren't BUILDING a trauma center, just paying doctors to go to the existing hospitals to pretend they ARE a trauma center....this country is letting the government take over...not work for us at all.   I have also sent emails to several different senators for various reasons and get no decent responses either.   just form letters from someone in the office that has nothing to do with my questions.

Re: tax to pay for trauma center

Well, for you smokers who have enough respect to not smoke around those that don't like it,kudos to you...however,the reason I'm agreeing with the tax increase on tobacco is because of people like my husband and my dad who smoke. My dad sometimes will go in his room with the door shut, but never outside to smoke and will at times smoke right in the same room I'm in.My husband seems to think everything my dad does is ok and follows right with it and don't seem to mind smoking around our 17 month old son when I nag at them not to smoke around me and the little one,and here just any day now, another little one.PLUS,when my husband has company over, they run over my wishes and light up right in front of me too.I try to be nice to them, but that's just crossing the line not having enough respect like that.Just because they don't care if they died tomorrow, doesn't mean they gotta drag others down with them.I cannot STAND the smell of cigarette smoke! So because of people like my dad and all,I wish the government could go to enough extremes of doing away with tobacco permanately...or at least just the ones where you smell smoke like cigs and cigars and all.
