Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Ban the breeder and the owner. These dogs are bred and trained to do harm. Put the blame where it belongs. The trainers and the breeders.. These are very good dogs. They should have the same rights to live as other breeds. Just do a little past history of these dogs and you know it's not the dog, but the owner, and the training they go through. STOP THE OWNERS NOT THE DOG.

Maybe so, but the breed supplies a few contributing factors....without those factors there'd be no discrepency! Like oh...say; you breed a dog with a monkey.....the only danger you'd expect to encounter would be keeping enough bananas around to feed your kids!

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
yes i think they should be banned...
NO its not how you raise them, Its the breed.. you can raise them the best you can and they can turn on you... Last year we had to put our Pibull Mix down because he got really sick one winter and after that he changed and started bitting everyone even the hand they feed... We raised him the best i could and i had to think about my kids.. Yes i heard alot of pit bulls attacking lil kids and other people.. and other dogs also.. Its not the people that raise them its the breed...

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
They are trying to banned other dogs also.. but Pit bulls are worse of them all.. Pit bulls are NUMBER 1 for killing.. And i dumb to have one and you have kids.. What happened if your pit attacked your kid.. When your child is climbing all over then and the dog attacked him/her.. What would you do? Nothing at all.. Locked jaws you cant pull them apart it will be too late...
ASK THAT QUESTION? What would you do if that happened?

First off, it is not the way a dog is breed. I am a trained vet tech. I have many many hours of animal behaavior classes. I have also worked around these dogs and other dogs. You say your dog was good with your kids until he got sick. I wonder what disease he had. Maybe it was something that could have affected his central nervous system. That would cause him to change not because of his breed but because of illness. ( I had a wonderful hound mix that did that and we had to put her down) Also did you read this story on CNN.com http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/06/17/dnt.baby.mauled.wane?iref=videosearchby
It tells of a little terrier-poodle mix that attacked a one month old baby. Should we assume that all terrier-poodles are dangerous. Or should we say one of them is dangerous. And there is always a way to break any dogs bite. So if one of my children were bitten by any dog I could get them to let go. I have yet to meet a dog that I could not take down if I truley needed to. Any dog can be dangerous. I know for a fact I have been bitten by some very mean dogs of many different breeds. No one breed is meaner than any other. If you truley believe that meanness is breed into a dog. Ask yourself this does a murder's child have to be a murder as well. also I ask you to find one (just one) pit bull puppy until 3 months of age that is aggressive. You wont find it. People have to make these dogs mean. I have personally seen what these sick people do to make their dogs fight. It does not just happen.

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
I'm pretty scared when I see a pit bull running loose. I would say I'm more scared than I would be if I saw, say, a golden retriever running loose. Nevertheless, when I saw a baby puppy pit bull staggering with exhaustion up the double yellow of a busy highway I scooped him up. We were hundreds of miles from home and as it was after 5:00 on a Sunday evening (all shelters closed) my husband and I drove him home with us. I posted him as found at the shelters in the area where we found him and listed him on craigslist but no dice. Couldn't find the owners. I tried EVERYTHING to find a new home for this puppy. Everybody cooed about how cute he was but nobody wanted him. Not even placement professionals were helpful. So now we have a pit bull.
A couple of years ago our older, very beloved Jindo dog was attacked and nearly killed by a loose pit bull. That's why I'm scared of them now. I think finding this puppy is the universes way of making me learn a lesson. Previously, I couldn't imagine a dog I would want less than a pit bull. I had always viewed them as loaded guns and their owners as swaggering and irresponsible. Now, after living with one for 2 months, I find that these dogs are just like any other. This little fellow is a typical puppy scamp, tearing up my house and yard like mad with his sharp little puppy teeth. He's heavy as lead at only 5 months old so it's very hard to pick him up in order to control him. He's just finished all his shots so he's going to start obediance school on the 12th (thank goodness!). I guess the thing to know about them is that they are much more powerful than other breeds so, left unattended, they can do A LOT more damage in a limited time than you would expect. You have to watch them every minute until they are trustworthy. They become trustworthy through their owner's diligent efforts, training and lots of attention. So, no, I don't think pit bulls should be banned. I think that pit bull owners should be FORCED to certify their dogs through the AKC's Canine Good Citizen Program. This is a 10-step program that makes the owners prove that their animals can perform quite a few behaviors such as responding immediately and without reserve to voice commands, being able to interact in a friendly way with strangers and other animals, sitting still for grooming and thus proving they are in no way untrusting, etc. If all pit bull and other so called "dangerous breed"' owners were forced to demonstrate their dogs could pass these tests by a certain age we, the public, would be assured that only responsible owners had these dogs because this training takes a lot of work, dedication, expense and effort. If CGC certification were required for licensing and ownership, and very hefty fines and possibly jail time were put in place for violation, we could all breath a little easier and wouldn't have to ban any kind of pets.

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
I agree that I'm probably more watchful if a pit bull is coming towards me than if a retriver was. I don't think there's any reason to BAN them though. If you own one you understand the risks. They are more prone to bite, but they're not the number 1 biter AND, like was stated in another post, cocker spaniels (who used to be listed as the number one biter) are known to bite your face if they get jealous or territorial. The only pits I've ever been around have been overgrown lap dogs, but I try to understand the fear that people have of them.

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
no i do not think they should be banned,,it is not fair to the dog,,they are all good dogs,,unless theyre caretaker raises them the wrong way,,then thats when we have a problem,,im strongly against the banning of pit bulls,,why because,i raised pits as i grew up,and all of mine turned out just fine,,none were agressive at all, like i said ,,it is all up to the person that raises them,,i mean if thats the case,,then all dogs should be considered dangerous,,this is startingto feel like a type of discrimination on these poor animals. donna in arkansas

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
No pit bull dogs should not be banned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They should not be banned at all. I have 2 myself. I enherited a family home and moved in well I cant have them with me I guess I should just lose my childhood family home!!! being that I live in N.L.R ...they are 3 and 5 my boy I had before I even had a b/f . I tried everything to get them legal at my new home!! NO one CARED. I though get the chip have then fixed put up a 6ft fence. They are not even out side animals they sleep in bed with us. sit in the chairs with us. they went out to use the potty an play while we were out there. BILLY GRACE SAID CANT HELP YOU!!!! SO NOT FAIR ...... Now they are outside dogs dont get no attention. Dont play. I had to leave them at my parents they dont spend time with them at all they love them but dont want the responsibility. My responsibility. Now I have to go see them. Its hot outside they dont look near as healthy as they did!! THANKS BILLY GRACE!!!!!! YOUR A WONDERFULL MAN yeah right! RUIN a good breed!!! WHY DONT YOU BAN EVERY BREED. thats is the only way I would agree to any ban! If you gonna ban animals why dont you ban cats birds HUMANS also!!! there are bad humans you dont ban them from life why dont ya Sounds rediculas dosnt it thats how the ban seems to me Not every pit bull is bad just like not every human is bad either let them have a chance murders gets chances all the time look at the lady in bryant 1 day a yr behind bars for killing a kid getting off the bus she deserves life but she got the chance she screwed up again bet her punishment still wont be a tough as what the breed is haveing to go through
I took very good care of my doggies now they are 25 miles away from me. dont seem them much there are now outside dogs before they were inside They even love cats other dogs humans an all life they didnt deserve this punishment for someone elese negligence. I could go on for days thats how angerd I am from this but it wont do any good Hope BILLY GRACE SEES THIS AND THINKS TWICE Not every one in that breed is bad

Re: PITBULLS SHOULD NOT BE BANNED!!!!!!!!!
If we were to completely ban pits then the news world would have to get onto another breed. I have seen several news articles stating pit did it when in truth it was a mix breed with features of a american pit bull terrier.
Fact:
Cocker Spaniels still to this day have bitten more humans than pits.......
I myself have been bitten in the face (123 stitches) plastic cheek bone later) By a cattle dog. But do I scream Cattle dog prevention. No pups are like babies 9 times out of ten being taught right come out right. But there is a few of them that are born bad. See, what I am. We need not ban a breed because of a couple ones with loose screws. That would be just silly to me. Kind of like
well
Lets say that this teen boy messed up the high school
Do we ban all teen boys because they are teen boys? No

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
I don't believe pit bulls should be banned. As a pitbull owner for 30+ years I have never had a problem with them. I, like others, believe it is in how you raise them, what you teach them and the environment they live in.
I have had more problems out of the Rotti, dobbie and even cocker than I have with any of the pits I've owned. I would say to those that breed and sell pits "be aware of whom you sell your puppies to."
