    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    I think that all Pit Bulls should be banned.  No matter how or who they are raised with nobody knows if or when they will snap.  I was attacked while walking my small dog.  The Pit Bull that attacked us was raised in a household with small children.  The owner said he was a very sweet loving dog.  Then why did he charge out of their house and attack us while we walked down the street?  If Pit Bulls get banned I also think that Boxers, Rotti, Dobbie and wolf breeds should be also.

    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    Yes, Pit Bulls/killer dogs/ should be banned. I just read recently where two killer Pitts attacked a young child in Sherwood, severly biting and chewing him up in a terribly, painful, suffering  way for no reason other than the kid walking along minding his own business. Their killer instinct is bred into them, and no upholding of the killer Pitts are justified. Ban them!!!....better yet, kill all of them off the face of the earth.

    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    pit bulls are a breed with lots of potential to be bad, brought on from the fact that wannabe gangsters make them that way and ruin them for everyone else in the usa.its funny how recently they named the most aggressive breed by vets was a dachsund? but as in any type of dog, akita,rotty, or pit you cant have them loose either. lot of cities are making people get special insurance/or cancelling homeowners insurance. its not worth it.

    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    No, because a dog is a dog. Pit bulls are very sweet dogs. No meaner than a chow. I really hate that they are targeting pit bulls. It seems more prejudice toward blacks. Yes I know some white people own them also.

    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    Not everyone has a dog to protect them as you imply that is why people have dogs.  Pit bulls probably should be banned if that is the reason people have them, because more likely than not they have been trained to be somewhat aggresive if they are watch dogs.

    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    The pit bull ban is not a target on the African American communities. It may be that they represent the majority of pit bull owners but the ban has nothing to do with punishing owners because of their skin color. that is the most rediculous comment I have ever heard!!  While I dont agree with a breed specific ban it exist none-the-less. Owners had opportunity to register their dogs so if your pit bull has been seized you cant blame anyone but yourself. Furthermore all owners of any breed should comply with local regulations including providing proper shelter, food and CLEAN water. Above all else dont let your dogs run loose!! If you take care of your dog and keep it properly restrained then you are less likely to have neighbors complain and then the big white truck wont have to come take your dog. I find it rediculous that people will break the law and then when the ACO's come to take the dog the owner get irate!! If you dont want your dog taken and a nice city ticket to pay then take care of your pets. I also understand how frustrating it is for the owners who do abide by the law to have to suffer for the poor judgement of others. I will get off my soapbox for now.

    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    NO I do not think pit bulls should be banned. Owners who promote the breed to attack should be fined very heavily and be jailed for a long time.

    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    I think that banning Pit bulls is absolutely ridiculous. Why are they picking on just pits there are a lot of different breeds that act the same way they do.. Why are they not banned??? I love my pit bull he has NEVER hurt anyone or anything and I don’t think that it is fair that they are picking on this breed.. I do think that it is in the way that they are raised.. It’s just like  a person if you are raised and think that fighting is right then that is what you are going to do. So to me this whole thing is a big waste of time and money why are we focused on the breeds of dogs people have and not trying to get people off the streets that are selling drugs to kids or killing other people!!!!

    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    Personally I think them banning pit bulls is like putting a bandaid on a much larger problem or quick fix if you will. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a new worthy story right. Well the last two bitings I viewed on the new didn't have pure breed pits as the bitters.

    The higher ups think that banning a breed will fix the problem instead of having tougher laws, larger fines for fighting rings, and abuse. Arkansas has walked around that issue for years now. Due to the farmers and such. If they would just word the freakn' bill correctly and get it passed on animal cruelity then we would slow down if not stop all these fighting rings that make the pits mean. Hold the humans accountable. But since it is way easier and no trouble at all to ban a breed then the higher ups say Quick fix. Problem is all the abandoned animals lift in the woods pack up and then a smart one of the pack shows the othewrs where to get food. This leads them to the backyard garbage can with a toddler playing then I don't have to tell ya what happens next. See, that exact thing happened in Nesbit MS Where I grew up. Now they have great laws and fines and animal cruelity is a real crime. I pray that doesn't start happening hear before the higher ups wake up.

    One that knows

    I was biten in the face with over 100 stitches and a plastic cheekbone later, By NOT A PIT a freakn cocker spaniel Do I want to ban them HECK NO! I foster for the abandoned and abused or throw aways that folks dump. I blame the folks

    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    banning pit bulls is not the anwser ,, but fining the people that raise /train these dogs is the problem,, i have had pits for years , my 3 year old nephew has learned to walk holding on to this dog / and continues to play with him dailey . he will place him self between the stove and that baby and realley does a better job than the baby's mom at watching him.. it is not the dog /it is how they are rasied, and trained .. i have had labs the have gotten agressive with poeple, but with the right training any dog can be bad , look at the pit now ,used for fighting ,well who trained that dog .. i agree any dog can be agressive and some have to be put down. make the owner come in and place the dog through his paces or a course, that proves the dog to be good or bad . and deal with the owners who are responseable for that dog's action . don't kill the dog ,because of his owner..  do we kill babys because they bit another child ? do we place laws , if a child bits another child. is there a law that bans a child from an area because of his color /or breeding????? let's go back to the drawing board and see if there is another way to deal with each dog / not all peroid . than lonok will be just trying to be trying to keep up with the jones, so to speak . there are other choices, lonoke does noyt have to be jacksonville/sherwood ect. there are smarter officals in lonoke , surly there is another soulition to this

    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    * Pit Bulls (originally bred to fight these are particularly deadly) and widely kept as "pets." Read More on these Deadly Dogs >>

    Among the deadliest and most vicious of all dog breeds with killer instincts, originally bred to fight and kill other dogs, Pit Bulls are now widely popular as companion dogs, especially in American cities. Their popularly is strange given their homicidal history and aggressive in-bred traits, but that is seemingly part of the appeal. With its powerful jaws, thick skull and muscular legs the American Pit Bull Terrier (and related breeds) makes short work of children and adults it attacks often maiming them for life. The very name "pit bull" is used in our language to signify a singularly tenacious state of being.

    This breed is variously cited as being responsible for nearly a third of all fatal dog attacks in the United States, in part due to its tenacity in a fight.
    Pit bulls cause one-third of dog-bite related fatalities while only make up less than 2% of the dog population.
    Because of the deaths, maulings and serious injuries inflicted by Pit Bulls, many countries worldwide ban these dogs altogether or require licenses for ownership of them. In response to many high profile maulings and fatal attacks by Pit Bulls, many US cities and towns have specifically targeted the breed with legislation restricting ownership and increasing penalties on owners for attacks made by their Pit Bulls. Pit Bulls are often responsible for attacking and killing other dog breeds as well as cats and small pets. Police officers often need to shoot and kill this breed in order to subdue it after attacks on humans or other animals in US cities. In recent years several owners of these dogs in the United States have been criminally prosecuted in homicide cases. Sadly, many of the owners of these deadly dogs do not possess insurance and the maimed victims go uncompensated. Apologists for these vicious dogs abound online, but facts are facts. These dogs have little or no business being pets in anyone's household they are simply too aggressive and dangerous.

    Other aggressive breeds include:
    * Rotweilers
    * German Shepherds
    * Huskies
    * Doberman Pinschers
    * Chow Chows

    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    I am not going to try and disrespect you but what freaking planet did you come from. I am a mom and I have a pittbull. He is the sweetest most lovable dog that I have ever owned.  I AM NOT NOR DO I INTEND TO RAISE HIM AS A FIGHTING DOG.   He is a family pet. If you are that scared of animals then  maybe you should move yourself and your families so deep in the boonies that nothing would bother you. Oh wait what about the squirrel or the raccoon. You Moron. It isnt the breed it is the way they are bred. I walk to and from work everyday and am constantly getting snapped at the ankle by some mouse looking dog. Oh wait those arent dangerous breeds. Hell anything that bites can be dangerous. What about your children and your grandchildren if they bite should they be banned I think not. Also if you by a gun make sure you read the warning labels. IDIOT.  Ban the dogs that are fighting dogs or dogs that bite which would include every dog and as someone else said cats and horses, gerbils hamsters, turtles. Anything else. Get God in your life and move to a country or somewhere where you can live without making ridiculous comments.

    Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?

    No, breed specific legislation should not be tolerated!!  And to the lady who told her pits are "wired differently", I would find a more competent vet!!!  To the person who wrote "also most pit owner do take in consideration that they do have a temper and they do make "distemperment shots"   What the hell is a "distemperment shot"????  IF there were such a thing I know WAYYYYYYYYY more humans, than dogs, than are severely in need of those "disTEMPERment shots" you speak of.  I suspect you were referring to distemper(an infectious disease chiefly of young dogs, caused by an unidentified virus and characterized by lethargy, fever, catarrh, photophobia, and vomiting), which is a disease that has nothing to do with their temperment.  I think, from reading these posts, there is ALOT of ignorance out there.  Research and READ before passing judgement people.
