Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
lesanders:
Hi I dont think that pitbulls should be ban because they are sweet animals just like any other dog. They are only how they owner make them out to be so if a pit bull should bit someone they need to sue that persons not killed the dog, because of what the owner has done to that animal. Remember the dog have to be train.
Some of the sweetest dogs I've ever known, have had episodes of violent reaction when someone got too close to their space or their master or their bowl of food! From Chihuahuas on up to labrador retrievers, any of them will have that instinctive response when you least expect it. The only difference is that the pit bull terrier has the jaws of an alligator. I knew a lady once that had the sweetest most well trained german shepard that got to the age of 12 yrs...and one day a child on a bicycle was going by, and the dog bit clean through his tennis shoe and almost through his foot. She cried terribly when she had to have him put away! TJMHO ~Denarky

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
I don't think that pit bulls should be banned. Not only are pit bulls pets, they are family as well as any other pet. It's discrimination and everyone knows that's not right. If we can ban them, what's next? Can we ban mexicans, blacks, whites, asians, or the french from certain places? No, it's not right. Every person should be dealt with for their actions, just like any animal should be dealt with for their actions. Not a whole group for the action of a few. Discrimination is discrimination on any level. How can we teach our children to love everybody and everything when we're teaching them to discriminate on a "smaller level"? What's next to ban? Cat's that claw? It's rediculous.

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
I do not think Pit Bulls should be banned. I know they have a bad reputation, but it's not the dog's fault, it's the owners fault. If people would respect their animals instead of raising them to fight, we wouldn't have this problem. I am a PROUD PIT BULL OWNER. My Pit is the most loving girl. She greets total strangers with a wagging tail and tons of kisses. I mean you can raise any dog to mean and fight. Quit punishing the responsible owners and the good dogs. I'll be damned if someone is going to take my dog away from me. TEAM PIT BULL!! STOP THE BAN!!

I came back to all this garbage!! I love her, what am I suppose to do?? I am staying with my parents right now but looking for an apt. in Hyde Park!! WHAT CAN BE DONE? Seems to me there are enough people who agree, PIT BULLS SHOULD NOTTTTTTTT BE BANNED!!! So why is it still in effect?![]()

Re: PITBULLS SHOULD NOT BE BANNED!!!!!!!!!
Here it is folks, we are a nation of laws and limitations. Like speed....70 is okay, but 100 is illegal! Semi-automatic weapons are legal to hunt with, but a 50cal machine guns is illegal! You can drive your 1957 chevy with a 500 cubic inch engine on the street with proper license, but leave your B-gasser on the dragstrip, it's illegal on the street! This country is governed "generally" by, of, and for the people who are it's citizens....young and old! And we garantee their safety and pursuit of happiness. So, there has to be limitations! If I lived next door to you would it bother ya if I let my African Lion out on the lawn to answer the call? What about my nile crocodile? Might bite you? Naw....they are my sweet little pets....please make an acception for them...after all, they are people too! Sheesh ~Denarky

Re: PITBULLS SHOULD NOT BE BANNED!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you folks it's all in who raises the dogs and how they are raised./Banned no but when any pet bites or attacks a human or another animal then the owner should be held responsible.
I raise Chihuahuas and I have 6 right now out of those six the one I worry about is my first one because she was spoiled and tusseled around and played with ruff by anyone that came in contact with her as a pup .Now she will snap and growl at anyone including me.
So to me their shold be stiffer laws pertaining to all dogs that attack .I have nothing to worry about all my dogs are kept on my property inside their fence. We make certain they can not get out not only for outside people but for my pets as well .I have lost one Chihuahua being attacked by strey dogs and just about six weeks ago two more of mine were attached.Iwas out almost $600.00 on there vet bills and no one in my neighborhood would claim the dogs. But someone here takes care of these dogs.
I beleive any dog large or small can be dangerous so owners should be held responsible for what they do.

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
Of course not. People who own dogs of any breed and are irresponsible in their care of the animal should be banned from owning dogs of any breed. I see so many pitbulls just kept tied up in yards with no shelter, no food, no water. These people should be ticketed and the dogs removed and they should be banne from owning any animal. I know it is a problem to keep up with animal abuse unless other people join in that fight. I have owned pitbulls that were wonderful companions when trained and treated as they should be.

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
I don't know why pit bulldog owners cannot get it through their thick skulls, and entered into their brain that pit Bulls are born with the GNA that classifies them as viscious and deadly. You cannot take it out, and sooner or later, the pit bulldog will attack somebody, severely injuring them, or worse...kill them.
Tell the lady whose little 4 year old daughter was in her OWN yard playing, minding her own business, when two pit Bulldogs attacked her and tore her little body to shreds.
The pit Bull's owner gave the excuse.....why, my pit bulldogs have never, ever shown any aggressiveness towards humans. Yea, tell that to the little 4 year old girl's mother and see how far you get into making her belive such BS.
PIT BULL DOGS SHOULD BE BANNED....END OF STORY!!!

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
i live in lonoke and no pit bulls should not be banned, as most have said IT IS THE RAISING OF THE DOG. my friend has 3 pits and all of them are huge baby's. if someone broke in his house these dogs would help you rob him not stop you. people's biggest problem with the breed is it's jaws lock and it has hooked teeth, so do shepards and rots but no one discriminates against them. with any dog in depends on it's raising. a great example: my best friend as well as she is my next door neighbor has a shepard, had 2, one had to be killed by an officer because it attacked me then tryed to attack him, she now has to keep 2 barriers between her female and the outside world whether it be ON a chain INSIDE a fence, or IN a kennel IN the house. these dogs just aren't safe to be around but if she had of spent time with them when they were pups instead of just feeding and watering them they would probably be totally differnt dogs and then younger male would still be here today. it is a lack of responsibility and care that makes a bad dog, and any dog from 2 pounds to a dog 150 pounds can be the best thing in the world or the communities worst night mare.

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
Well then...if they aren't banned[like handguns aren't] you should have to apply for a license, and be registered by the government...just in case you accidently lose control of your big baby and it bites a childs face off! And if it does happen....the penalty should be life[for the owner]! TJMHO~Denarky

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
Yes I think the Pit Bulls should be banned. The Pit Bull was bred to fight, everthing about the dog is muscel. My sister has a Pit Bull and it's very friendly and might lick you to death. But when she gets excited you have to watch her very close or she will get the upper hand on you. I've had her twice lunge at my throat because she was excited about a squirrel in a tree. I've seen her kill possums and litterly tear them to shreds then mope around because she thought she'd done wrong by killing the possum. In other words the instinct is there, bred into them, when excited it tends to come out. With there build and jaw strength the results would be devestating to a human. They do not know they've done anything wrong until the deed is done. Yes they should be controlled.

Re: Do you think pit bulls should be banned?
if you don't already know there is already a law in effect that states you must register ANY dog in city limits and pay a $45 fee to keep that animal. the pit bull ban states you must micro-chip your pit bull, spay or nuter the animal, and then move it entirely out of the county. there is not an option to keep the animal contained or even keep it at all unless you are willing to move. if you don't have pets, which most people do and understand any animal you have from its infancy you are attached to, they become a part of your family and when something like this happens it is then a member of your family being attacked by everyones opinions. even when people don't take the time to get the facts behind what ignorance they speak, these dogs are taking a huge beating. if the family can't find another home for the dog , if they can't move or any other circumstances where the dog is still in the county not the city the WHOLE county then this animal that may or may not be a worthy dog and deserve its life is then euthenized, destroyed then put in a huge fire with all the others that had to be put down and incenerated. this is not constitutionally right, if it were a single person doing this to their very own pet it would be considered inhumane and they would be charged with animal crulty but because there are some many ignorant people that want certain breeds gone it is all perfectly fine. and as for your comment on handguns a dog and a handgun aren't even in the same catagory.
