tax to pay for trauma center

How can the "powers that be" believe that more tax on cigarettes will fund whatever they want?    The world is trying to take away the freedom of choice for smoker's everywhere..and get everyone to quit smoking.   So lets say they pass ANOTHER tax  on cigarettes,  start up their trauma center based on this new tax...and people quit smoking....WHERE is the money to fund this trauma center going to come from then?   Anti-smokers don't stop to think very well do they??

Fed_Up is right, but it is not just the smokers freedoms being taken...Look around.  Government means "control".  We have reached a point in the "republic for which it stands" , (the flag), that 60 percent of our population is "controlling" the freedoms of the other 40 percent.  In other words, our government that was designed to be a republic ruled by a few select individuals is now being run as a total democracy.  The majority always wins, that doesn't make them right, it makes them bullies, and there sin is greed, and the willingness to give up there freedoms for protections.  Look at the pitbull issue.  I don't need protection from a breed of dog.  I don't need protection from the huge tobacco companies.  I don't need protection from teenagers texting while driving.  I can handle these minor violations of common sense on my own, just to keep the government from being able to intercede in every aspect of my life.  I returned from Iraq in 2005, and this country has not been the same since because people are scared to death of their own shadows.Angry

Re: tax to pay for trauma center

Well i Use to smoke but one night on the porch my little girl who is 7 asked me to stop smoking so i did. but i still like my dip.seems funny that everyones answer is to tax, tax, tax. One of the politcans stated he was for this tax because his nephew got hurt on a 4 wheeler. he did not think about anyone else only his on family.not the people who got him his job. (voters) But the only poeple who should be crying is the people who re-elected the Sen. and Rep. who voted for this!

This has totally gotten ridiculous!  How can the people of Arkansas keep paying such high taxes on everything?  Why not put these tax increases to a vote?     Forcing citizens of Arkansas to pay 8% plus on everyday items?  Citizens need to start complaining to their representatives-voting them out of office if they cannot protect our interests.  We are in the middle of a depression- the state is getting stimulus money- and yet we are paying more and getting less.   I will be doing more shopping in the surrounding states, and to heck with Arkansas taxes!!

Re: tax to pay for trauma center

This might stir some boo's up but the deal is: People vote for democrats and then can't believe it when taxes increase. All you have to do is look at some track records before you vote. As far as this smoke tax goes, I'll pay it. We will smoke and pay it. My question is why is it the smokers who pay? How about overweight folks cramming down Big Macs on their way to an infinate number of health problems. FAST FOOD TAX. Heck with all the extra revenue from the smoke and fat taxes we could build a big plastic Ivory Bill Woodpecker statue to add to the other worthless junk the state spends our money on. And don't think that all this smoke tax is going to be spent on a trauma center. It's going into the "general fund", not specifically marked for the center.

"Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette, smoke, smoke, smoke,  until you puff yourself to death, tell Saint Peter at the Golden Gate, that you just hate to make him wait, but you just gotta have another cigarette".

    LoL.

Re: tax to pay for trauma center

just a word here....I didn't vote for the "spendthrift democrats"  and never will.  I also don't smoke, but don't think it's fair for one group of people to be taxed to death for anything.  that is like putting a 68% tax on a candy bar or pack of gum....do you really think anyone would be amused by that?  why don't they just tax the air people breathe and get it over with...you can't pay- you die....think anyone but the government would care if you couldn't afford the air?  I'm just saying..they are trying to get everyone in the world to quit smoking, if that happens and they are paying for a trauma center (or anything else that important) with that money...who is going to make up the difference?  they won't be able to tax the smokers if they aren't smoking anymore.    Wake up folks, it would be everyone's taxes going up on everything to make up that lost revenue..

Re: tax to pay for trauma center

It is simply another trap, just like the one laid for Jesus by the Pharisees...."tell us, should we pay customs to Caesar or shall we not"....but Jesus was not deceived and stated that they[Pharisees] should render unto Caesar the things which are his, and to God the things which are God's! If you understand these things yet you still smoke, you will pay customs[taxes] to the heathen...which are not following God's laws, but rather their own, and will get them thrown into the lake of fire. So if you do[pay the ridiculous new taxes on cigarettes], you are trapped...if you don't; you will quit smoking. >>>I loved the saying by manacle75 though, about the statue of the Ivory Bill Woodpecker....ROTFL ~Denarky

Re: tax to pay for trauma center

There are taxes on everything a person does...just like the tax per tire to get rid of old tires...what a hoot...they are still burning tires and poisoning our atmosphere, but we are still paying that tax....tax on food, tax on phone service, tax on gas, water, and electric bills....tax on satellite or cable services, tax, tax, tax, and you know...our salaries are not going up....but everything we do or need is and taxes on top of it.....at some point, we will be paying like people overseas....half of our income will go up in taxes, not smoke....

Re: tax to pay for trauma center

another thing....wonder how much the state of Arkansas could have saved with these salary increases many state employees just got approved...maybe then we wouldn't need another tax to pay for a trauma center....about to need a trauma center for people out here busting their tails to make a living and coming up short.....
